Everything is bigger in Texas, that's why you don't mess with Texas |
After we caught up on some sleep on the vehicles, we partook in a traveling breakfast that included a choice of powdered or chocolate donuts, bananas, and apple juice. Then, our second traveling meal featured peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Doritos, fruit roll-ups (with some awesome tattoos), and a healthy choice of water, with our future canyon hike impending.

After lunch, many once again decided to catch up on some sleep, often with mouths wide open. Several hours of jokes and Hannah Montana sing-alongs and getting to know each other better passed the time as we continued to drive through Texas. Our quote of the day came from counselor Josh Kerns. He said, “Let’s just have let our emotions and personalities have a makeout sesh” on the bus when we were playing "Would you rather" to help us get to know everyone better.

Carolina Girl was happy to be in Texas today |
Later in the afternoon, we got to the Alamo, a good history lesson and a wake up call for our freedom. We saw and learned of the fight of Davy Crockett and his unbelievable stand at the Alamo.

Research:
Olivia Andrews elaborated on the fact that the River Walk is located a mile underneath the city of San Antonio.
Bailey Patterson told us that the Texans lost the battle of the Alamo, but they held the Mexicans off for 14 days.
Brooks Godbold informed us that Texas is larger than any country in Europe.
Sam Russell told us that San Antonio, Texas is the second most populated city in all of Texas.
Emilio Blair told us all about the awesome state of Louisiana, sharing that the state reptile is in fact the very common alligator.
The next highlights of the day consisted of the River Walk in San Antonio, where we walked barefoot after the counselors informed us of the importance of "preserving the stone walkways." We all took our shoes off and walked through the first part of the River Walk barefoot, which included walking through the a part of a mall. As we walked we began to notice...everyone else had their shoes on. Apparently the counselors were carrying an old TWB tradition on by tricking us into walking around the river walk barefoot.
|
It's not very often you have to walk through a city without your shoes, but we trust our counselors! |
|
Starting to get a bit suspicious of this whole barefoot thing..... |
|
San Antonio may never smell the same. |
|
So the barefoot thing was all a hoax, but we made the best of it |

Refreshing! |

We have some pretty awesome leaders on this trip |

Emily Maxey even ran in to Marcella, an old middle school friend who had moved out to San Antonio!! |
The River Walk was beautiful, we all were very happy to find different ice cream shops front and center on the streets. We walked and explored the beautiful city of San Antonio. We reloaded the bus around 6:00 and began our journey to the campsite. Also on this trip we refueled with chicken wraps with Caesar, ranch, or BBQ dressing. The vegetarian option for this evening was a wrap consisting of mixed vegetables. We also had some fresh apples and animal crackers with this evening’s meal.
We finally arrived at our campsite and were blessed to stay inside in the air-conditioned gym of Schreiner University, a gorgeous small private college. Upon arrival we met our friend Jose, a senior who plays soccer and runs track at Schreiner, who introduced us and answered all of our questions about the college. The gym we found fully equipped with basketball goals and basketballs, we even brought our volleyballs in and had some fun with those too.
Today was the last day of our group responsibilities. Tomorrow our groups will be rotating to a new counselor and a new job. Since we needed meals for tomorrow, the grumpy group got a head start on their new job as cooks and headed off to Walmart to shop for the first time.
This has been an amazing journey so far and the Bashful group is so glad we got to help virtually take you through our first 3 days. We will pass the torch onto the Dopey's!
