Day 4

It’s day four and the DOPEY’S have taken over the blog! The Dopey’s include Lauren Whitaker, Hannah McAferty, Natalie Royal, Carly Brown, Jake Studebaker, Luke Edwards, Grayson Jackson, Alex Cormier, Morgan Bostic, Emily Davis, Liz Cox, Clara Little, Matt McConnell, and Logan Schultz. The finest members of TWB are so excited to show you guys all of the spontaneous adventures of Trip 1.

Our 4th Sleeper of the Day is….. Hannah McAferty!

It was a tight race for these tired TWB’ers, so here are the runner’s up.... Ty Brown and Trey Dry.

Not even counselors are safe from Sleeper of the day

DAAAAAAAWE, so peaceful

Our first Quote of the Day, said by our own counselor, Dallas Godbold, was “This rooster has its ruffles fluffled.” (Don’t ask)

Today we got an early start, traveling from Schreiner University through the great state of Texas on our way to New Mexico. This morning we were able to watch our 4th beautiful sunrise of the trip, while eating delicious Pop-Tarts, bananas, and drinking orange juice.  The trek led us through 300 miles of flat land deserts and plateaus leading up to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Carlsbad Caverns. Our long bus ride was filled with sleeping, singing, and listening to a special morning talk show from Ty and Josh.

Ty goofing around at the gas station

Ironically we drove by hundreds of oil rigs with not a single gas station in sight… so, we had to take a “scenic” detour in, literally, the middle of nowhere. While waiting on the vans, we passed the time by climbing trees, taking pictures, and having an epic rock-paper-scissors war.

Ty decided that he was "it" and started chasing people all around the rest area
What a good looking bus crew
Following our traveling incident, we ate our turkey sandwiches and fruit gummies as our lunch-on-the-go. When we finally reached Carlsbad Caverns, we were enlightened with research from Georgia Privott, telling us that are over 17 known caves in the caverns.  We then hiked to the bottom of Carlsbad seeing unique sights, sounds and smells. Logan Schultz and Matt McConnell even got the privilege of getting pooped on before entering the cave!

At Carlsbad Caverns, one of the 7 wonders!

Thousands of feet underground and we are amazed at how beautiful the caves are
After seeing the mystical caves of Carlsbad, we headed to Roswell, spending an hour in Walmart clearing the isles of Cliff-Bars and Propel Packs in preparation for the Grand Canyon. Thankfully, there was a McDonalds inside for those of us who aren’t motivated enough to hike the whole thing.
We then rode to our campsite, the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.

Alex Garrigus shared with us that many students come from up to 20 different countries to attend school at the Military Institute.

Sloan Edemann Shared with us about the odd state of New Mexico, home to Roswell where there have been more claims of UFO sightings than any other state in the country.

We were informed all about the New Mexico Military Institute from Lt. Col. Jeff Cunningham, ret.  The Grumpy’s got to work and cooked up a gourmet salad and alfredo chicken pasta dish for us in the parking lot for dinner. We ended the night with a sing-a-long on the athletic field at the New Mexico Military Institute. We are getting pretty good at the songs.

Happy to be at camp after a long day of travel.
Lt. Col. Jeff Cunningham, ret.  One of TWB's best hosts!
